ChescoEnergy/Chester County ScholarsHigh school group from Pennsylvania shines in Now Debate This' 100-Day Presidential ChallengeIn January, Now Debate This challenged high school groups from around the country to identify their community's greatest energy challenge and to do something about it. Student groups from all across the country answered the call and produced a wide variety of thoughtful and provocative solutions to one of our country’s most pressing issues. Congratulations to ChescoEnergy, the winning Now Debate This 100 Day Presidential Challenge group. While all of the submissions served as outstanding examples of what high school students with drive and vision can do to change the world, the Chesco team of Allie and Nick Proko showed how even small, but tangible steps can improve our communities. Chesco Energy's plan asked local businesses to cut their energy use, and in return, the businesses would be recognized as environmentally responsible community members. Their Web site outlines their plan, along with a bounty of useful resources for energy conservation and alternatives: http://chescoenergy.org/. The group has designated Beth Chaim Temple in West Chester, PA to receive the technology prize on their behalf. Warmest thanks to all groups that participated in this year’s challenge. Please continue your excellent work! Now Debate This is made possible through the generous support of the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Forensic League, National History Day, the National Park Service and institutional and private partners including the United Nations Foundation. |
